After being stopped by police in the Hamptons in 2024 on suspicion of impaired driving, Justin Timberlake had difficulty performing field sobriety tests, such as walking in a straight line and balancing on one leg, as shown in recently released video footage. The pop star was initially pulled over by Sag Harbor police for running a stop sign, swerving out of his lane, and emitting an alcohol scent from his BMW.
During the encounter, Timberlake mentioned to officers that the tests were challenging and explained that he had consumed one martini while following friends home in the affluent beach town of Sag Harbor. When asked about his presence in town, Timberlake mentioned he was on a world tour.
Despite his struggles with the sobriety tests, Timberlake eventually pleaded guilty to a reduced charge following the incident. The video footage, which lasted approximately eight hours, captured Timberlake’s interactions with officers during the stop and at the police station.
Timberlake’s lawyers initially contested the release of the footage, citing concerns over privacy violations and potential damage to his reputation. However, after an agreement with Sag Harbor officials, a redacted version of the video was made public in compliance with state public records law.
As part of his plea deal in September 2024, Timberlake provided a public safety announcement cautioning against impaired driving, received a non-criminal traffic violation, a $500 fine, 25 hours of community service, and a 90-day license suspension.
