Saskatoon has been selected as the host city for the 2027 Brier, marking the 100th anniversary of the men’s curling championship. The centennial festivities are scheduled to commence on February 26, 2027, at SaskTel Centre, making it the seventh time that Saskatoon will hold the prestigious event. The announcement was made by Curling Canada at a local Montana’s BBQ & Bar, the title sponsor of the Brier.
CurlSask executive director Steve Turner expressed excitement about hosting the Brier in Saskatchewan, emphasizing the province’s deep-rooted connection to curling. He highlighted the enthusiastic and knowledgeable fan base that has a history of setting attendance records. The last time the national men’s curling championship was held in the province was in 2024 in Regina, where Saskatchewan teams have claimed the title seven times.
The 1980 Brier champions from Saskatchewan, skip Rick Folk, Ron Mills, Tom Wilson, and Jim Wilson, were the last local team to secure the national title. Mayor Cynthia Block of Saskatoon emphasized the significance of the event in showcasing the city and honoring the province’s rich curling heritage.
The successful bid was a collaborative effort by Discover Saskatoon and Saskatoon Destination Marketing Hotels Inc. A funding request of $350,000 was approved by city councillors to support the bid, with expectations of generating significant economic benefits for the region. The 2027 Brier winner will represent Canada at the World Men’s Curling Championship later that year.
The upcoming 2026 Brier will take place in St. John’s, N.L., starting on February 27. The first-ever Brier was held in Toronto in March 1927, with Nova Scotia emerging victorious among eight competing teams. Tickets for the 2027 Brier in Saskatoon are anticipated to go on sale in the spring of 2026.
