Residents in British Columbia’s north and Interior, as well as parts of Alberta and Vancouver Island, were puzzled by a strange sight in the night sky on Tuesday. Between 10:15 and 10:30 p.m. PT, several witnesses observed a large, white object slowly moving across the horizon before vanishing.
Videos of the mysterious shape were shared by people from various locations, including Vanderhoof, Williams Lake, Prince George, Fort St. John, Nass Valley, Kamloops, Oliver, Vancouver Island, and Sherwood Park. Speculations about the unidentified object ranged from a weather balloon to a SpaceX rocket or even something extraterrestrial.
Sarah and Jared Siemens, who had just discussed the existence of UFOs with their son, were astonished to witness the phenomenon shortly afterward. Many others, like Ashley Megan and Brooke Merritt, expressed surprise and intrigue at the unusual sighting.
Astronomer Malhar Kendurkar suggested that the sighting was likely SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, which had been launched from California earlier that evening. The rocket’s distinct appearance, resembling a glowing cloud due to atmospheric conditions, led to confusion among observers.
Michael Unger from the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre noted the increasing frequency of unidentified aerial phenomena sightings as the night sky becomes more congested with drones, satellites, and rockets. The trend of capturing and sharing such events provides valuable data for scientists monitoring celestial activities.
The growing curiosity surrounding celestial events serves as a reminder of the vast unknowns in the skies above, prompting further exploration and study.
