“Canadian Figure Skater Laurence Fournier Beaudry Joins Team France for Olympics”

Laurence Fournier Beaudry, a 33-year-old Canadian-born figure skater, revealed on Saturday that she had obtained French citizenship. This development allows her to partner with Guillaume Cizeron and compete for France at the upcoming Milan-Cortina Olympics.

Earlier this year, Olympic ice dance champion Cizeron announced his new partnership with Fournier Beaudry following the suspension of her former partner, Nikolaj Sorensen, for “sexual maltreatment.” In an Instagram post, Fournier Beaudry expressed her joy and gratitude for the support she has received throughout her journey, having also represented Denmark in the past.

It is common for skaters in ice dance and pairs figure skating to switch national allegiances due to the limited availability of suitable partners. Cizeron, aged 30, achieved Olympic gold and five world titles with his previous partner Gabriella Papadakis before their retirement in December 2024. He returned to competition with Fournier Beaudry, securing victory at the Grand Prix de France last month.
