Canadian tennis talent Félix Auger-Aliassime has made the decision to withdraw from the Moselle Open this week due to a knee injury, prioritizing his health over a potential spot in the prestigious ATP Finals. The 25-year-old athlete from Montreal highlighted his knee issue as the primary cause for pulling out of the tournament in Metz, France, one of the two ATP 250 events happening this week.
Auger-Aliassime’s decision follows an intense journey to the final of the Paris Masters, where he experienced a defeat against world No. 1 Jannik Sinner with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (4) on Sunday. Throughout the tournament, he displayed remarkable resilience by overcoming deficits in the initial three matches and engaging in five tiebreakers.
This recent performance elevated Auger-Aliassime to the 8th spot in the ATP rankings, surpassing Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the competition for the last singles slot in the upcoming ATP Finals commencing in Turin, Italy this Sunday. Musetti is currently participating in the Hellenic Championship in Athens and must secure a victory in the event to reclaim the ATP Finals position from Auger-Aliassime.
With a record of 48 wins and 22 losses alongside three titles this year, Auger-Aliassime has returned to the top eight for the first time since April 10, 2023.
