Three individuals who accused actor Kevin Spacey of sexual assault have reached a settlement for their civil claims before their trial at the High Court in London, according to court records. The accusers claimed that the Academy Award-winning actor had mistreated them between 2000 and 2013. Despite the allegations, Spacey has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
Scheduled civil trials set to commence later this year were halted by Judge Christina Lambert, who stated that the parties involved had agreed to a settlement. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed, and the judge did not address any costs associated with the case. The order, dated Friday, was made public on Wednesday.
During a 2023 trial in London, Spacey faced nine alleged sexual offenses against four men but was ultimately acquitted of all charges. Two of the claimants in the civil case provided testimony during Spacey’s criminal trial, and Spacey successfully defended himself against a $40 million US civil lawsuit filed in New York in 2022 by actor Anthony Rapp from “Star Trek: Discovery.”
Once a highly acclaimed actor known for roles in films like “Glengarry Glen Ross,” “L.A. Confidential,” and the TV series “House of Cards,” Spacey’s career suffered a setback due to the abuse allegations. He won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1995 for “The Usual Suspects” and a Best Actor Oscar in 1999 for “American Beauty.” Spacey also served as the artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre from 2004 to 2015.
Despite some recent work in smaller films and stage productions, Spacey has not returned to the mainstream Hollywood roles he was once known for. His representatives have been approached for comment regarding the settlement of the civil claims.
