Pop singer Chappell Roan announced on Monday that she has severed ties with the talent agency overseen by Los Angeles 2028 Olympics chief Casey Wasserman. Wasserman faced backlash over past flirtatious emails with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell more than two decades ago. He has since apologized for the communication with Maxwell following the public release of their personal email exchanges.
Recent files disclosed by the U.S. Justice Department shed light on flirtatious emails between Wasserman, who was married at the time, and Maxwell back in 2003. Roan took to Instagram to declare her decision to part ways with Wasserman’s agency, emphasizing the importance of artists receiving representation that resonates with their values and ensures their well-being. She stressed the necessity for accountability and trustworthy leadership in the industry to drive meaningful change.
Wasserman, an executive in sports and entertainment, has refuted having any personal or professional ties with Epstein. He clarified that his association with Maxwell predates the exposure of her and Epstein’s criminal activities. The talent agency in question refrained from immediate comment on the matter.
Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence following a 2021 conviction in New York on charges related to the sex trafficking of minors, was arrested in 2020. Federal prosecutors accused her of recruiting and grooming young girls for sexual encounters with Epstein between 1994 and 2004. The release of extensive internal documents by the U.S. Justice Department has unveiled Epstein’s connections with numerous influential individuals, both before and after his 2008 guilty plea to prostitution allegations involving a minor. Epstein’s death in 2019 while in a Manhattan jail was ruled a suicide.
