Sophia Howell Secures Podium Finish at World Triathlon Cup

Canada’s Sophia Howell achieved her first podium finish at the World Triathlon Cup on Sunday by securing third place in the sprint-distance event. Hailing from Airdrie, Alta., Howell completed the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike ride, and five-kilometer run in one hour, one minute, and 12 seconds in San Pedro de la Paz, Chile. The 23-year-old expressed her excitement, stating she was pleasantly surprised by her performance and was thrilled with the outcome. Howell finished three seconds behind Jeanne Lehair of Luxembourg and nine seconds behind the champion, Miriam Casillas Garcia of Spain. Additionally, Emy Legault from L’Ile Perrot, Que., finished in 12th place. Meanwhile, in the men’s competition, Martin Sobey from Charlottetown emerged as the top Canadian, finishing in 14th place.
