“Canadian Food Agency Suspends Goodfood’s License”

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has decided to suspend the license of Goodfood, which is a meal kit and grocery delivery service based in Montreal. This suspension does not involve any product recalls, as clarified by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) in a recent news release. According to the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, businesses engaged in manufacturing, processing, preserving, or packaging food for interprovincial or territorial distribution must possess a valid license.

The CFIA stated that the suspension of the license will be lifted once the necessary corrective actions are taken by the licensee. Goodfood’s non-compliances were specifically linked to preventive controls outlined in part four of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations.

The CFIA emphasized that if corrective measures are not implemented within 90 days following the suspension, the license might be revoked. The agency highlighted various reasons for suspending Safe Food for Canadians licenses, including non-compliance with regulations, failure to pay related fees, and posing a risk of harm to the public through continued operations.

A representative from Goodfood Market Corp. expressed disappointment regarding the license suspension for their Montreal facility but assured that their Calgary facility remains fully operational and that their products meet stringent safety standards. The spokesperson mentioned that the suspension primarily pertains to procedural issues related to the license rather than food safety concerns.

The company has requested a review of its file and is optimistic about resolving any perceived gaps promptly. Despite the suspension, customer orders will still be fulfilled nationwide, with only minor disruptions expected, according to the spokesperson.
