Grammy award-winning vocalist Chappell Roan has responded to claims by Brazilian-Italian football star Jorginho that a security guard mistreated his 11-year-old stepdaughter after she identified the singer. Jorginho, also known as Jorginho Frello and a player for Flamengo, stated that his wife and stepdaughter encountered the singer at a hotel in Sao Paulo where they were all staying. The incident took place during breakfast when Jorginho’s daughter recognized the artist, sparking excitement, and simply wanted to confirm her identity.
The young girl is the daughter of Catherine Harding, Jorginho’s wife, and British actor Jude Law. Jorginho mentioned that his daughter did not make any requests or comments, but a security guard approached their table and addressed his wife and daughter in an aggressive manner. Jorginho expressed disappointment in Roan, suggesting she did not deserve the admiration of her fans.
Roan responded to the situation on Instagram, clarifying that the security guard was not under her employ and that she was unaware of the presence of a woman and child. She emphasized the unfairness of security assuming ill intentions and expressed sadness if the mother and child felt uncomfortable, stating they did not deserve such treatment.
Eduardo Cavaliere, Rio’s new mayor, commented on the matter, indicating that Roan would not have the opportunity to perform on Copacabana Beach during his tenure, contrasting with artists like Madonna and Lady Gaga. He also mentioned that Jorginho’s daughter would be a special guest at Shakira’s upcoming concert on Rio’s beaches. Cavaliere recently took over as mayor from Eduardo Paes.
Roan, known for her openness about being queer and her connections to drag culture, gained prominence in 2024 with hit tracks such as “Good Luck, Babe!,” “Red Wine Supernova,” and “Hot To Go!” from her album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.” She won the Grammy for Best New Artist in February, edging out Sabrina Carpenter.
