Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for certain Elantra Hybrid vehicles manufactured between 2024 and 2026 due to a potential fire hazard. The recall pertains to 6,082 cars in Canada, as confirmed by Hyundai. There have been no reported incidents, injuries, or fatalities associated with this issue in Canada, stated Hyundai spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth in correspondence with CBC News.
In the United States, a total of 54,337 vehicles have been recalled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the same issue. The problem stems from a malfunction in the hybrid power control unit in some vehicles, which may lead to overheating, Hyundai explains.
According to the NHTSA, this issue could result in a “no start” situation or a reduced power mode in most instances, potentially escalating to overheating and an increased fire risk. Hyundai has assured that it will contact all impacted drivers and provide a complimentary software update to rectify the overheating concern.
