“Violence Escalates in Gaza Following Ceasefire Agreement”

In the six weeks following the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas to end their two-year conflict, there have been frequent reports of Israeli attacks in Gaza. The truce, signed on Oct. 9 as part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan, aimed to pause the hostilities but did not fully resolve the underlying disputes. Both sides have accused each other of violating the terms of the agreement and impeding progress on the peace plan.

Data on Gaza’s Ministry of Health casualties, compiled by the Tech for Palestine group, shows a daily tally of deaths since Oct. 11. Under the initial phase of the ceasefire, Israel agreed to pull back to a designated boundary known as the “yellow line,” which encompasses over 50% of Gaza’s territory.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned of military action against any attempts to breach the yellow line. Deadly incidents have occurred both near and far from this demarcation, with recent reports indicating Israel’s alleged advancement of the yellow line by 300 meters in eastern Gaza City, a claim disputed by the Israeli military.

Since the ceasefire began on Oct. 10, Gaza’s Health Ministry has recorded over 300 Palestinian deaths and close to 900 injuries due to Israeli actions. The Gaza government reports nearly 500 ceasefire violations by Israel, including shootings, military incursions, bombings, and infrastructure destruction.

Israeli sources state that three soldiers have died during the ceasefire, with the country targeting numerous militants in response. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of nearly 70,000 Palestinians and left over 170,800 seriously injured. The violence escalated following a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel in 2023, which resulted in significant casualties and hostages taken by Hamas forces.
