“Buffy the Vampire Slayer Actor Nicholas Brendon Dies at 54”

Actor Nicholas Brendon, known for his role as Xander Harris on the TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” has passed away at the age of 54. According to an announcement on his official Instagram page, Brendon died peacefully in his sleep from natural causes.

The statement highlighted Brendon’s transition from acting to pursuing his passion for painting and art in recent years. Described as passionate, sensitive, and driven, his art was a true reflection of his character.

In the iconic show “Buffy,” set in the fictional town of Sunnydale, Brendon portrayed Xander Harris, the nerdy and sarcastic friend of the slayer who assisted in battling vampires and supernatural entities throughout the series’ duration from 1997 to 2003.

Co-stars of “Buffy” such as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Emma Caulfield, David Boreanaz, and Charisma Carpenter paid tribute to Brendon on social media platforms. Gellar shared a poignant quote from a scene in the show, expressing her belief that Brendon is now at peace.

Aside from his role on “Buffy,” Brendon also appeared as Kevin Lynch in “Criminal Minds” and had guest appearances in “Private Practice” and the TV series “Kitchen Confidential.” He had been open about his battles with addiction and mental health issues and had faced legal troubles in the past.

In 2023, Brendon revealed his struggles with health issues, including a heart attack and spinal surgeries for a rare nerve condition. Despite his challenges, his family stated that he was undergoing treatment and remained optimistic about his future.

Plans for a “Buffy” reboot on Hulu, with Chloe Zhao set to direct, were canceled, as confirmed by Gellar earlier this week.
