“Canadian Charities Linked to Controversial Israeli Settlements”

In the occupied West Bank, Israel has been constructing settlements since the 1960s, which are considered illegal under international law and criticized by Canada. These settlements have been associated with instances of violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians facing displacement to make way for the settlements. A recent investigation by CBC’s the fifth estate revealed that Canadian charities have indirectly supported organizations, including the Israeli military, linked to the expansion of these settlements. Despite violating regulations for registered Canadian charities, these donations have been issued tax receipts. Co-host Ioanna Roumeliotis discusses the investigation findings and how critics argue that such funding fuels violence, jeopardizing peace efforts and the establishment of a Palestinian state.
