The city of Helsinki in Europe is making a bold move to encourage Pamela Anderson to reconnect with her Finnish heritage by offering assistance in changing her name. Anderson recently expressed her strong ties to her Finnish grandfather, Herman Hyytiäinen, in an interview with Vogue Scandinavia. Her grandfather’s original name was Hyytiäinen before it was altered to Anderson upon his arrival in Canada in 1908.
Expressing her desire to reclaim her family name, Anderson mentioned to Vogue her wish to be known as Pamela Hyytiäinen. Helsinki has taken notice of this and has launched a campaign, including online advertisements and billboards near Anderson’s residence on Vancouver Island, to support her in becoming a Hyytiäinen.
Janne Hyytiäinen, a renowned Finnish actor, featured in a video ad for the campaign, offering three ways for Anderson to officially adopt the Hyytiäinen name: through marriage, adoption, or a legal name change. The campaign, referred to as “Operation Make Pamela a Hyytiäinen,” aims to assist Anderson in embracing her Finnish roots.
The ads on billboards along Ladysmith, B.C., where Anderson grew up, specifically target Anderson, inviting her to explore her Finnish heritage in Helsinki. Soila Lehkonen from Helsinki Partners described the campaign as a warm invitation for Anderson to visit Helsinki and reconnect with her Finnish background.
While Anderson has not responded to the campaign yet, Helsinki remains hopeful that she will consider visiting Finland. Regardless of whether Anderson decides to change her name, Helsinki is eager to showcase its city and country to her and assist her in any way she may need.
