“Vancouver’s New Women’s Hockey Franchise Signs Rising Stars”

Vancouver’s Women’s Professional Hockey League franchise announced the signing of Nina Jobst-Smith, Brianna Brooks, and Madison Samoskevich, all recent draft picks. Jobst-Smith, hailing from North Vancouver, B.C., was chosen in the third round, 19th overall, during the 2025 PWHL Draft. The 24-year-old defenseman, serving as captain at the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2024-25, tallied 18 points with three goals and 15 assists, receiving All-WCHA Second Team recognition.

Brooks, a 23-year-old from Whitby, Ont., was picked in the fourth round (32nd overall) from Penn State, achieving a career-best 32 points with the Nittany Lions and earning a spot on the All-CHA Second Team in 2023-24.

Samoskevich, chosen in the fifth round (39th overall), accumulated 84 points with 19 goals and 65 assists over 168 games at Quinnipiac University. The 22-year-old from Sandy Hook, Conn., transitioned from defense to forward in her final NCAA season.

Jobst-Smith secured a two-year contract, while Brooks and Samoskevich signed one-year deals. Vancouver and Seattle are set to debut as expansion teams in the PWHL for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
