The 55th annual Juno Awards continued into its second night on Sunday, featuring performances by Rush, The Beaches, Daniel Caesar, Cameron Whitcomb, and other artists. The evening also saw the presentation of several awards. The Beaches secured the group of the year title for the third time, Daniel Caesar won in the contemporary R&B recording category for his work “Son of Spergy,” Cameron Whitcomb was named breakthrough artist of the year, and bbno$ took home the fan choice award.
The banquet held on Saturday saw the distribution of most of the roughly 50 award categories, with Tate McRae emerging as a standout winner. McRae, an artist from Alberta, had an impressive record with 17 prior Juno nominations and clinched six awards in 2024 and 2025, including artist and single of the year for “Greedy.”
This year, McRae continued her winning streak with six additional nominations, already securing four wins in categories like artist, single (“Sports Car”), pop album, and album (“So Close to What”). The only award she missed out on Saturday was the songwriter of the year, which was awarded to Daniel Caesar. The fan choice award, the only remaining prize for McRae on Sunday, was won by Vancouver rapper bbno$.
The event on Saturday also celebrated Aysanabee’s victories in the alternative album and contemporary Indigenous artist or group of the year categories for “Edge of the Earth.” The evening saw a tie for the adult alternative album of the year between Bahamas’ “My Second Last Album” and Begonia’s “Fantasy Life.” Notably, The Weeknd’s album “Hurry Up Tomorrow” received five nominations but did not win any awards, marking the first time in his career that a studio album went unawarded at the Junos.
Furthermore, the night featured touching moments such as Raquel McIntosh winning the MusiCounts teacher of the year award, a performance by Cameron Whitcomb, and a tribute to Joni Mitchell, who received a lifetime achievement award. Additionally, Nelly Furtado was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and Billy Talent received a humanitarian award.
Sunday’s awards included various categories such as fan choice, breakthrough artist or group of the year, group of the year, and contemporary R&B recording of the year. The event also recognized individuals in genres like jazz, blues, roots, country, and more, showcasing the diverse talent within the Canadian music industry.
