“Tory Lanez’s Appeal Denied in Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Case”

A California court has rejected rapper Tory Lanez’s appeal of the guilty verdict for firing a gun at Megan Thee Stallion. The California 2nd District Court of Appeal’s three-judge panel affirmed the 32-year-old Canadian’s conviction on three felony counts without providing an explanation.

In December 2022, Lanez was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possessing a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and recklessly discharging a firearm. During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez shot at her feet after leaving a party at Kylie Jenner’s residence in July 2020, instructing her to dance as she walked away from the SUV they were in with two others.

As a result of the shooting, Megan had to undergo surgery to remove bullet fragments from both feet. She publicly identified Lanez as the shooter months after the incident. Lanez, also known as Daystar Peterson, has not commented on the recent ruling, and his attorneys have not responded to requests for statements. They have the option to seek an appeal with the California Supreme Court.

Currently serving a 10-year sentence at the California Men’s Colony near San Luis Obispo, Lanez was transferred there following an altercation where he was stabbed by another inmate at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. Lanez, who started his music career in 2009 with mixtapes before achieving success with major label albums, has had two albums reach the top 10 on Billboard’s charts.
