“Two New Suspects Charged in Louvre Crown Jewels Theft”

The Paris prosecutor announced on Saturday that two new suspects have been charged in connection with the theft of the crown jewels from the Louvre museum. Laure Beccuau, the prosecutor, revealed that a 37-year-old suspect was charged with theft by an organized gang and criminal conspiracy, while a 38-year-old woman was accused of being an accomplice. Both individuals have been placed in custody and have denied any involvement in the crime.

In total, five individuals were arrested by the police, with one of them identified through DNA evidence. Earlier this week, two suspects, aged 34 and 39 from Aubervilliers, were charged with theft by an organized gang and criminal conspiracy. The prosecutor mentioned that these two suspects provided vague statements and admitted only partially to their roles in the heist. They are believed to be the individuals who forcibly entered the Apollo Gallery. One of them was apprehended at Charles-de-Gaulle Airport while attempting to board a one-way flight to Algeria. His DNA matched samples found on a scooter used during the escape.

No detailed information, including names or backgrounds, has been disclosed about the arrested individuals. French law mandates that details of ongoing investigations remain confidential to safeguard police operations and protect the privacy rights of victims, under the “secret d’instruction” policy. Only the prosecutor is authorized to disclose information on case developments, and any breach of this confidentiality can lead to legal repercussions.
