“Ronettes Icon Nedra Talley Ross Dies at 80”

Nedra Talley Ross, the final surviving member of the 1960s iconic pop group the Ronettes, known for hits like “Be My Baby,” “Baby I Love You,” and “Walking in the Rain,” has passed away at the age of 80. Ross passed away at her residence on Sunday, confirmed by her daughter, Nedra K. Ross, and the official Instagram account of the Ronettes.

Acknowledging Ross’s significant impact on the group’s sound and lasting influence, a statement expressed gratitude for her distinct voice, style, and spirit. The Ronettes, with their captivating appearance and strong vocals, rose to fame with support from Phil Spector, becoming a prominent act during the girl-group era. They even toured with the Rolling Stones in England and formed friendships with the Beatles.

During her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, Ross reflected on the highs and lows of show business, crediting her family for providing stability in a tumultuous world. She expressed gratitude for the cherished memories and experiences.

Born and raised in New York City, Ross, alongside her sisters Veronica “Ronnie” and Estelle Bennett, released their debut album, “Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes, Featuring Veronica,” in 1964. The album, featuring five tracks that charted on the U.S. Billboard, was recognized as one of Rolling Stone’s greatest albums. Notably, it was the trio’s sole studio album.

Their musical journey began in March 1963 when Estelle Bennett arranged an audition with Phil Spector, leading to their signing with Philles Records. Despite their eventual split in 1967, the Ronettes left a lasting imprint with hits like “Be My Baby” and “Baby I Love You.”

Following the group’s disbandment, Ross ventured into Christian music, releasing the album “Full Circle” in 1978. She was married to DJ and TV personality Scott Ross until his passing in 2023. Despite a prolonged legal battle over royalties with Spector, which ended unfavorably, Ross continued her artistic endeavors.

With the passing of Ronnie Spector in 2022 and Estelle Bennett in 2009, Ross is survived by her four children, leaving behind a legacy in the music industry.
